Kaylah Raquel
Model, Kaylah Raquel shares with us her thoughts and a little about her taste and struggles. This classic gem advocates self love and the importance of putting yourself first. Not stopping at vintage and pin-up looks, Kaylah talks about her short film, MUSE and the inspiration behind it and even mentions an upcoming film.
We're extremely excited to work with you today! Can you please introduce yourself?
K: I'm so happy that you guys want to work with me! My name is Kaylah Raquel and I'm a model. I love to think of myself as a modernized Pin Up model. I would love to bring that time back and make it modern.
What have you been doing to bring that back and make it modern?
What are some challenges you face as a model?
K: I've been bringing out my inner Eartha Kitt, Marilyn Monroe and Bettie Page! They are my inspirations and I idolize them. People say that I remind them of Eartha and that's so dope. Or they say "you're a black/Dominican Marilyn Monroe." I've even doing a lot of vintage inspired shoots for some time now. That's more of my style. I'm very versatile though so I could do a lot of things but I pick vintage pin up over everything.
The challenges that I face is my height. I'm only 5'2, I'm fun sized lol. I feel like not a lot of people take me seriously but I'm so okay with that because I model for me and not for anyone else. I'm here making my own lane and I don't want to be like everyone else out here. I want to be a classic. Not a model "for the moment." I think people will be so shocked when they see that I was right this whole time.
I've realized that you're very confident about your body. What would you say to woken who are not? How did you get the courage to do it? Do you get hateful comments when you post photos like that?
K: Yes I am very confident in my body. I love being naked lol. I would say to those who aren't confident and insecure about their bodies is that take your time. Go to sleep naked at night and wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and look past your flaws. I look past my flaws all the time. I got the courage because I realized that THIS is my body. This is how it's suppose to look and I love it. I'm on the thicker side, so I embrace my curves and sexy fat lol.
It's honestly once in the blue moon and I'm so thankful for that. If I ever get hate it's from people who wish that they could do what I do. It's mostly men that will never have a chance and women who want to be me.
Great! Are there any goals you want to achieve in 2016? If so, what are they?
K: Yes! I'm working on my second short film. My first short film is called MUSE. The link for that is in my Instagram and Twitter bio. I'm very into short films. My second one is going to be so epic and different from MUSE but similar at the same time. Ahhhhhh I want to say the name of it but I want everyone to wait until it's done lol. I'm so excited about it.
Also hopefully getting my name more out there and get into magazines.
Awesome! So you're can't give us done sneak peek details. Lol. What was your first film about? What inspired it?
K: Okay okay my second short film is inspired by my cousin Sunny and she's an exotic dancer .....soooooo we're going to shine some light to the strip clubs! And no I'm not naming it Sunny. I'm using a different name. My first short film is about a model who's a muse to a very mean and aggressive photographer. She decides to seduce him and he's very into it but at the end she kills him. It was inspired by the movie Basic Instinct. Sharon Stone is my girl! I saw that movie and was so inspired.
Is there anything else you'd like to say?
K: I would like for people to actually give me a chance and see what I have to offer because it's so much that I could bring to the table but regardless, I'm still going to do me and make my own lane.
