Meet Artist Priyanka Paul

Instagram: @artwhoring

Priyanka Paul is a 17 years old humanities student at St. Xavier's, Mumbai. She has been been drawing for as long as she can remember. Priyanka started taking art seriously when exposed to other art forms like poetry or art films, and also due to an overwhelmingly increased understanding of the world around her, what shapes, defines and troubles it. This artist uses her art as a tool to address issues that aren't being addressed as widely or openly as they should be.

"My art's quirky and bold and I'm all about preaching in the coolest way possible. I also like mixing visual art with poetry a lot. I hope my art makes you think along with providing a visual aesthetic."

"I see a lot of women being shamed for wearing make up. Like we weren't being shamed for other things already. I see a lot of women being asked who they want to impress. Because as women we've always been told we need to reach someone else's set standards, never our own. I see a lot of women being told that men don't like women who put on a lot of make up. But how about I like make up??All of me loves all of my powder and blush?? I see a lot of women told to act natural. Not so natural with a bare chest with nipples (!!!!), unshaved body hair and imperfect eyebrows??? I see a lot of 'swimming on the first date' memes. Yes, because a relationship is based on how great my face looks (and not my dank ass swimming skills???) I see women with make up being labeled as 'false advertising. Good ol' objectification back at it again. Feminism is always pro-choice. Putting make up is a very free choice and so is not putting make up. Have you updated yourself with these new trending products: Self Love Lipstick, Impress Myself Palette, Feel Good Concealer, Anti-swimming on first date Mascara and so many more!"

"Some people talk so much shit, they definitely need in - built tissue paper."

"I believe all of us humans are like sunflowers. That inherently, we will always face towards goodness like sunflowers face the sun. Unless, of course we rip ourselves apart from what's deep within."

"Downward Filtration Theory

On the sides of the road,
A clump of measly haired children gather,
Dressed in dirt and covered in rags.
They cluster around tossed out food
Mixed with the dust and stones.

Yet your carry speeds past them.

Callous.
You consume stones too and they shine over you.
Over your necks and your fingers
But there are stones in your heart and your mind,
And over the throne over which your soul rules.
Not so bright and not so shiny,
Very dark and maleficent.
And with every emerald, ruby and diamond you earn.
These viles stones in your heart, burn.

You forget what it is to love.

Love is castaway by greed.
But remember if you let go off love,
And let the black stones in your heart grow.
The gems on your neck and your hands,
Will tighten and bruise you to a violent purple.
And your breath will not last long.
As your very treasure will choke you.
Be kind to ones downtrodden and sick.
Be kind to the people who eat stones not wear them.
Or it will be the end of you.

The Downward Filtration Theory states that the upper class will have to save the down trodden. That development of the upper class will filter downwards and result in a development of the poor. But sadly, there are rarely those who help. And even if they do, it's a pittance. The Rich 'kick' what they don't want, to the poor, who open their gracious hands to it. Poverty. If riches could make us more humane and loving, would we work so hard to earn it? "God made us rich, so that we could help those who are poor."

"Sometimes my mind scratches paper
Like the nib of a dried up pen
Leaving no trace
But a torn mark on the paper
And as I rack my head

To think of poetry,theories
Like breathing in and breathing out
And swearing like a dragon breathing fire
Would bring to mind flittering epiphanies
But the pen doesn't leak ink laced thoughts
Pen chafes against paper
Like friction causing musings to burn into air
To write or not to write
To think or not to think
To err or not to err
A poet, artist, writer, thinker's vehement prayer."
