It's Jaden Smith's World; And We're Just Living In It

Ever since the beginning of time our world set an unspoken rule - women wear skirts, not men. Up until 2013, no one had dared to break that unsaid instruction…but Jaden Smith is breaking this and all together breaking gender oriented fashion. For example, Jaden smith first wore a skirt to Amandla Sternberg’s prom, then a dress to Coachella.

Although not the first, he is leaving behind the most memorable display of cross dressing and leaving people wondering what are the rules of masculinity? Smith was even casted as the face of famous brand Louis Vuitton for the women’s wear. Jaden’s promotion of unisex clothing is important to our society and changing the way people see fashion. Although not everyone approves, Smith has received much praise for what he’s doing. “What he’s reflecting in these bold choices is a refusal to be labelled or combined in one stereotype or another, in terms of who you are and how you dress.”

What does this mean for our future? Hopefully we will all learn to ride the wave and accept men wearing female clothing and vice versa. We can’t know for sure, but in 20 years it could be the norm to have a store completely unisex with skirts and dresses and suits, not a plain white t-shirt labelled unisex.
