Skincare Tips for Spring
Spring is coming and I know people want their skin clear and ready for all the outdoor activities they might be doing and getting it ready for Summer as well. Here are thirteen tips of mine involving creams, serums and moisturizers!
1. Extreme Creams
Hydroquinone is a common ingredient in skin bleaching creams but as it works by killing off the top layers of skin cells, some people find it makes their skin look older and causes sensitivity. Use it with care.
2. Use less than you think
Don’t slather on more product in the belief that it will work better. Many products are highly concentrated and are only designed to be used in very small amounts.
3. Day and Night
Always use different day and night creams. The day creams are designed to absorb into the skin quickly and not interfere with make up application whereas night creams are richer and more emollient and designed for bare skin.
4. Glow with serum
Unlike moisturizers, serums – either in the bottle for or as ampoules – have an oily rather than absorbent texture and impart a glow to the skin that improves the visual appearance. They can be used as a quick pick-me-up to give an instant richness to the skin’s texture.
5. Protect with UV
Always use a moisturizer with an SPF of at least fifteen to protect from sun damage. With modern formulations there is no need to really apply a sunscreen and a moisturizer.
6. Moisturize one at a time
It’s a common mistake to buy three or four similar products, open them all and then use them every other day. If you do this though the chances are that you won't use them all before their use by date and they'll end up being ineffective.
7. Night time beauty
Beauty sleep is not a myth. While you sleep, your skin regenerates itself which is why night creams are a good idea for moisture. Make sure you go to bed hydrated so your skin gets a chance to heal itself.
8. Firm and Moisturize
For very dry or mature skin, a firming serum or treatment applied underneath a moisturizer gives a boost.
9. Treat combined areas
A one product moisturizer that contains AHAs should treat and normalize both dry and oily areas equally. There are also cleansers available with ingredients that love dry areas really moisturizer and oily areas cleared of sebum.
10. Do it daily with light moisturizing
Every skin type needs a daily moisturizer, so know the one suitable for you. Lightweight gels and simple moisturizers are good for young and sensitive skins.
11. Serums are seriously good
Serums are pumps or vials of potent anti-agent agents such as antioxidants and AHAs. Some are formulated for daily use under a moisturizer while others are short term for overnight use.
12. Water works wonders
Kickstart the active ingredient in all skincare products by applying to skin that is a little damp. Run wet hands over your face or body before putting on wrinkle creams or cellulite serums and not only will they start working immediately but they will also penetrate the outer layer of skin easily.
13. Night time treats
Choose products especially for overnight use. Those products are packed with vitamins and usually have a specific delivery system that enables the skin to maximize the extra regeneration of cells that occurs during the light.
Hi Zaria,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your article and there are some really good points you make - especially the usefulness of differentiating between day and night creams. I just wanted to mention something about hydroquinone - it is my understanding that hydroquinone is banned for use in skincare products in the UK unless prescribed by a doctor. If creams containing hydroquinone are available online in the UK I would view them with exterme suspicion.
We have a cream which uses peptide technology to reduce blemishes by inhibiting excess melanin production.
