7 R&B Tunes to Check Out This August

Time seems to be rushing past us as July nears to its ending, reeling in August. Summer is all about being free, relaxing, and expressing yourself, all the while having a sensational playlist to set the mood the entire time. Every month of the year needs its own set of songs to vibe to. With that being said - here are 7 R&B tracks for you to check out this July.

1. Sunday Morning – NoName


Fatimah Warner, mainly known as NoName is a Chicago-Born poet and rapper. She’s good friends with other underground artists such as Chance The Rapper, Mick Jenkins, Donnie Trumpet, etc. Her lyrics usually revolve around, black struggles, government injustice, and other social conflict. Prior to the stage name NoName, she went by the stage name “NoName Gypsy”. However, due the realization that the name may be offensive to some, she removed the Gypsy from her stage name. 

The song “Sunday Morning” is a brief 2 minute and a half tune that covers a series of today’s society’s problems. A combination of a beautiful beat, beautiful vocals, and beautiful lyrics. It doesn’t get much better than this.

2. twoAM – SZA 


SZA is an R&B singer-songwriter from New Jersey. Her music type varies through different R&B styles, mainly Alternative and Neo Soul. SZA has become fairly popular amongst social media and her name is often seen everywhere. She is signed to Top Dawg Entertainment and you can find her collaborating with artists such as – Isaiah Rashad, Rihanna, Jill Scott, D.R.A.M. and others.

Her track “twoAM” is a rendition of PARTYNEXTDOOR and Drake’s “Come and See”. She intertwines her own lyrics and beat with the chorus of their song, and together, created a fantastic masterpiece.

3. With Me – dvsn


dvsn is a Canadian duo well known for their popular tracks on SoundCloud. They are signed with OVO Radio, and have recently released an album titled “SEPT 5TH.” The album introduces a list of 10 soothing R&B tracks that touch over life and love. You can also catch them featured on Drake’s “Faithful” off of Views.

4. I BEEN GOIN’ THRU IT ALL – Erykah Badu


If you thought Erykah Badu’s iconic music reign was over, think again. On April 20th, Erykah released this track on her SoundCloud. The song is filled with rhymes, disses, and other lyrics guaranteed to make you laugh. This is a great R&B track to jam and vibe to this July. 

5. Ridin Round – Kali Uchis (Ft. Tory Lanez)

  

If you didn’t know already, Kali Uchis is a Colombian singer/songwriter from Virginia. Her music can be labeled as R&B as well as Soul, and Indie Pop. She released an album titled “Por Vida” that presents you with 9 amazingly put together tracks for you to jam to all summer. 

This rendition of her song “Ridin Round” featuring Tory Lanez’ vocals near the end is a great tune to listen to this July. The track has become a SoundCloud sensation with over 10 million plays.

6. So Into You – Childish Gambino


Now, we all know who the infamous Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) is. However, you may not be aware of his cover of “So Into You” by Tamia he released in September of 2015. Filmed in the studio of an Australian Radio Station, Gambino perfectly covers the song combining his high-ranged vocals with the studio’s soft instruments.  This cover is definitely something to listen to on one those more laidback days you spend in the company of your own existence.

7. Wonderful Everyday – Chance The Rapper & The Social Experiment


Chance The Rapper and his peers’ collab again in this phenomenal rendition of PBS Kid’s “Arthur” theme song. Lengthening the song to six minutes, you are welcomed to the vocals of different artists such as Wyclef Jean, Donnie Trumpet, Jesse Ware, and many others. This gospel-like cover is a great listen and perfect tune for any day of August.
