Moral of the Story: Where Are Your Morals? (How Far is Too Far?) — Zolar Moon

Earlier this morning there was an outbreak of confusion, laughter, and suspense throughout the world of #BlackTwitter. What exactly was it that had our once sleepy eyes now wide open, and our thumbs sore from frequently attacking our screens in attempts of refreshing our time lines, you may ask?

The answer: @_zolarmoon

This honey had hundreds of people in an uproar over a - what's seems to be, and most likely is - TRUE story about an unfortunate weekend in Florida. In her stripper story tell all, she explains that while working as a Hooters Girl, she met a girl named Jess, who just so happened to be a stripper as well. After exchanging numbers, and only knowing each other for about a day, Jess invites Zola on a trip to Florida for a last minute "stripping" job.
Now, Zola was very skeptical at first, due to the fact that she barely even knew this girl, but she decided to tag along because the money was calling her name.

As the story goes on, Zola rants about sugar daddies, pimps, crazy boyfriends, cheap tricks, call outs gone wrong, deadbeat mothers, and arrests for kidnapping AND sex trafficking! She even gave us very specific details, including names and screenshots of their personal facebook pages!

Now, of course we all had our laughs, retweets, link shares and some even made memes - but something went horribly wrong. Things took a sharp turn when word of Jess' FULL NAME got around the black twitter neighborhood.
Everyone knows that there are multiple types of tweeters in black twitter, which sadly includes the "AYY LMAOO BRO WHAT A FUCKING SAVAGE! *insert one million emojis here*" tweeter. Well reportedly, some of these so-called twitter savages took the time out to hunt down our Jess' facebook, and completely ravage her picture and status comment sections.

Hundreds of death threats, derogatory exclamations, and heartbreaking comments flooded her page in an internet tsunami. Jess had seemingly changed her entire life around, (she even settled down with a new beaux and had another beautiful child), so this wave of harassment was extremely unexpected. In a matter of hours, her entire new life had been ruined.

This leads me to ask: who are we to shine light on the dark times of another person's life, and why do we find the humility of others so entertaining? Literally everyday there's another person forcibly walking down the twitter hall of shame while we laugh through emojis and point fingers through retweets. How would we feel if it were us or someone we truly cared for in these situations? Would we still laugh and repost the harassment? Would we indulge in the self-exposure?

Every now and then, a falling out between a once in love boyfriend and girlfriend makes it's way onto our timelines. You know how it goes, the once bae-of-a-boyfriend calls the once-babygirl-of-a-girlfriend a bitch or a whore, she says he lacks in the dick department, and then he pulls the cliche, go-to move: the releasing of the nudes. It honestly NEVER fails. But, as of late, the girls have been exposing themselves before their asshole ex even gets a chance!

I believe that many people have decided to go about exposing themselves in order to feel less embarrassed than they would if the enemy beat them to it. This may come off as a bit foolish to a lot of you, but it truly makes sense. (prime example: Fat Amy in Pitch Perfect. She openly admits that she calls herself "Fat Amy" so that other people don't do it behind her back, thus leaving her safe from all embarrassment).

A lot of the stuff we find entertainment in is extremely cruel, and can severely affect a person emotionally and mentally. We think that what we say or do has very little impact on a person's life, and we train ourselves to think this way by repeatedly saying, "it's just twitter" or "it's just the internet". But, the truth is, the internet has a HUGE hold on today's society, and once that internet/reality barrier is broken, there's no telling how a person may react.

While a lot of us use the world wide web as a growing tool, there are thousands of those who use it as a "trolling" device, and focus solely on breaking people down. Where do you stand on the spectrum? How far do you go? Is it too far?
