Get to Know Island Gal Rochelle Roman: Entrepreneur, Designer and Stylist
Rochelle Roman is 22 and comes from the beautiful island of Guam. She lived on Guam her whole life and recently moved to the East Bay.
"Living on an island was amazing. It's an experience I am grateful for. It all started there. So many things happened in less than a year. Here I am, doing what I love, but it took a lot to get here."
I turned my followers into a target market and started up my own online jewelry business, styling services, web design business and on top of that, work at a bank for financial experience and education. I take a percent of the profit I make and donate to non-profit organizations all over the world to give back and contribute as much as I can. This all happened in less than a year and I'm just starting. I've met and worked with people I could only dream of getting in touch with. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't always "motivated" or had the mindset that I have now. I knew I always had the creative mind and passion, but for a long time I didn't act upon it. I graduated high school at 16 and didn't continue to college. I left home at 18 and never asked my parents for anything after. I worked dead end jobs for horrible bosses. I was lost, had depression and didn't know exactly what I wanted to do. All I knew was that I wanted to be successful, satisfied, not worry about next months bills, and to have everything I've ever wanted.
I didn't let my depression and anxiety take over me. Instead, I changed my mindset. I stopped worrying about what other people thought or were doing and focused on myself. I started teaching myself everything I could possibly learn. I did extensive research on everything I wanted to do. I watched and taught myself how to market and network- mind you, that was hard while living on a 30 mile island. That is why I made my brand worldwide and took advantage of the tools I had, like the Internet. I feel like everybody should. We are in the generation where people complain that we are "always on our phone" but if you put it to good use, like find ways to make money off your phone and educate yourself then why would it be a bad thing? We have a powerful tool in the palm of our hands. Take over the Internet, don't let it take over you.
People always ask me, "How did you do it? How did you start?" It was always a simple answer from me. I got off my ass and stopped chilling. I just told myself, "Fuck it. I'm gonna do it." And I actually did. Now a lot of people can say that. They can talk all day about how successful they want to be and the plans that they have. Anyone can talk about that, but there are only a number of those who actually get up and execute it. The first step is always the hardest. You definitely need a positive mindset and the right attitude to keep you going. After changing my attitude and outlook on things, everything fell into place. You attract what you are. Who you surround yourself with plays a big role as well. If your surroundings are holding you back, then change it. Take every opportunity that comes your way and learn from it.
Now I'm not saying to go out there and start your own business so you can be your own boss. Success is being happy with yourself and where you are in life. We all want different things. Some people are comfortable working for a corporate office and others want to go all out. I'm just saying that at some point, (the earlier the better) you have to get off your ass and just go for it. Whatever it is you want to do, give it your absolute best. So much can happen in a year. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and making excuses as to why it can't and won't happen for you because that's all you are attracting. Those who want it badly and act upon it will always prosper and win.
