I had a chance to visit Misty the Hippie, a 20 year old D.C. Fashion mogul in her work studio; she started making a sweater during our conversation...

"hippiePoise is a unisex clothing line for all the hippies and rebels who clean up nice. Where urban meets poise. It's for the people who work hard all day and want to party all night but don't have time to shower in between. Whoever or whatever you are be creative and bold about it."

 -Misty the Hippie.

Nik: When did you realize you wanted to be a clothing designer?

Misty: My mother was my biggest inspiration to make clothes. She was an FBI agent so she was so never afraid to do a "man's job" or wear men's clothing. She's the reason why I'm not gender specific when it comes to my style.
Nik: What do you think about during your creating process?

Misty: I want people to feel a personal connection to me; like their piece was created just for them. Clothing that you feel fits your personality to a "T" is most likely going to be your favorite piece.

When did you know you wanted to make clothes for others?

Misty: In middle school, I would create my own uniform out of old clothing from the Thrift store. I only wore the clothes that I made to school so eventually people started asking me where I got them from. That was also the year I got a sewing machine for Christmas...

*She smiles in reminisce.*

Nik: How do you want people who wear your clothes to feel?

Misty: Clothing by hippiePoise brings energies of self-confidence to it's wear. I want people to love themselves enough to wear something out of the norm if it makes them feel comfortable. It's like a gateway drug to bliss.

Nik: Are you currently working on anything new?

A collaborative project called ZenfulxHippie. We're planning to release a limited edition "Pride" collection of handmade clothes and jewelry in the Springtime.

Our focus with this collection is shedding light on minorities such as Africa, Mexico Japan, Europe, LGBTQ community, Hippies, and Gypsies. We wanted to empower these cultures because they don't always get treated with the respect that they deserve.
