Instagram Quality Flawless Skin Under Ten Bucks
Whether you're a fan of the Kardashians, or can't stand them, you definitely have to be a fan of their makeup team. Everyone wants to glow like they're sent from the heavens, like most of the Kardashian family's faces do, which isn't necessarily just from genes. One of their makeup artists, Ariel Tejada (@makeupbyariel) has an amazing style of doing makeup, specifically the face. There's a long intense process to getting a flawless, covered, contoured and highlighted face, and he does an amazing job not only on the Kardashians, but many other clients you may know from Instagram.

One of Ariel's regular clients , Olivia Pierson is also, in my opinion, some of his best work, especially on the face. Her skin is so highlighted under the eye bringing light to her whole face. For some people, this is too much, but for others (like me!) this is sooooo good for the soul.
Let's take a look at some of his other work, on all different skin tones;
SUCH BEAUTIFUL ARTWORK!
Ariel occasionally lists the products he uses, but the few that he lists are almost always at least $50. If you're anything like me, that's not really feasible. It's hard to find good quality cheap-but-full-coverage foundation, but alas there is a $6 concealer that is the HOLY GRAIL for a broke person like myself. (Even if I wasn't broke I'd still be an avid user).
Hard Candy Glamoflauge Concealer, $6 at Walmart |
This stuff is so amazing. It is a completely full coverage concealer that covers everything. The one and only bad thing about this is that it only comes in 5 shades, which don't go very dark, but if you're going for the highlighted under eyes and have dark skin, the tan might work well.
I use "Ultra Light", which isn't shown in the picture. I'm always asked how I get my skin so flawless and what skin products I use that actually match really light skin. I'm going to tell you my skin routine. As well as how to get the looks pictured above. All of these products come in different shades, so use the brand, but the shade that will fit your skin tone.
STEP 1: PREPARE
Start with a clean face. I only use moisturizers at nighttime, I personally don't like using moisturizers before makeup because it makes it last a lot less. You can use a moisturizer/primer if you know it works good for you.
STEP 2: APPLY
Just as my daily routine I apply the concealer all over the face, but if you want the highlighted and contoured look, you're going to want to start with a foundation that matches your skin tone, just to get an even layer of coverage. After you have your foundation evenly applied, take the Glamoflauge concealer that's a shade lighter than your color, and squeeze a little bit under your eyes, bridge of your nose, chin, and in between and above your brows.
STEP 3: PAINT
After you have your concealer in the spots, you want to take a foundation brush and paint it evenly around the areas while staying within the designated spots. Don't worry about getting a smooth finish, that's what the next step is for.
STEP 4: BLEND
You should have the concealer looking pretty good by now, but to make it a flawless finish, take a beauty blender and pat around everywhere (especially the under eyes) until there are no brush lines and everything is blended out.
STEP 5: SET
This is the most important step, and for me, without this powder it wouldn't work. I use Ben Nye's Super White Powder.
This has been my saving grace for a girl with literal paper white skin. It has actual white pigment in it so it stays white and doesn't turn orange. Ben nye's shade in banana powder is SO gorgeous on dark skin. They come in a ton of shades but some can be difficult to find.
First take a powder that matches your skin, apply a thin layer of it with a powder brush around all areas that aren't highlighted, With whatever shade is 1-3 shades lighter than you (depending on how dramatic you want to be), Take a smaller brush and press on the powder (paying special attention to under the eyes so they don't crease) over all spots with concealer. After everything is set, press in the powder, don't sweep. Take a fan brush and gently get any access off.
STEP 6: CONTOUR
Take a contouring powder or bronzer and apply it around your hairline, cheekbones, sides of nose, and around your chin, the basic way of contouring. BH Cosmetics has a great highlight/contour palette that's around $12.
STEP 6: SHIMMER
To finish my skin I always apply a ton of illuminatior. This also helps bring and blend everything together. Apply your favorite highlighter to your cheekbones, blending your contour with the under eye highlight. Apply to the bridge of your nose, chin, cupids bow, and above and under the brows. Finish with a sweep of a fan brush to remove any access and you should be glowing!
You're so gorgeous and these articles are life savers, thank you!
