Soddie Casino talks about his lyrics, musicality and concepts. The connections between his mixtape’s theme and his last project portray his depth and dedication to his music. Looking forward to his next single, releasing May 1st.

Urban Time: I've been following your music for a while, the mixtape had recognizable song and lyric structuring.. Can you tell us about this mixtape, was it your first mixtape put out?

Soddie Casino: My real name is Micah Dixon, & my artist name is Soddie Casino. I'm from Atlanta. Yes, "Below the Tide" is my first official full length mixtape. It's the continuity of the song "girl" off my first mixtape "I Am." The message of below the tide is about relationships and how it's not easy to move passed some, making some feel "below the tide." Also, sort of finishing the title of "I Am".... (I Am: Below the Tide)

Urban Time: That's pretty cool! I find the mixtape very versatile in ways that some songs are playful and upbeat while others are calm and expressive, what is the structure behind this?

Soddie Casino: There's no particular structure but there is a story, if that answers the question. But that's for the listeners to understand and for them to get what they understand out of it. It's kind of something you make yourself. Whatever you get from "below the tide" is what it is. It's kind of hard to miss the message, so I'm kind of free with how people hear it and understand.

Urban Time: When you were writing did you have this in mind or did the writing process all revolve around this main idea?

Soddie Casino: All revolves around the main idea.

Urban Time: What inspired this, was it a relationship with someone specifically or mixed experiences?

Soddie Casino: My most recent ex from 4 years ago.

Urban Time: What was the recording process like? Is there a specific routine or vice?

Soddie Casino: Nah, not a specific routine... just kinda going with the flow and seeing what happens. I never plan out music recording. Kinda ruins the element of surprising myself with something new that might happen.

Urban Time: What is your goal for yourself?

Soddie Casino: To be completely honest, I just want people to hear my music and feel it. Nothing more. Money doesn't matter to me. Although it'd be nice lol.

Urban Time: Did this mixtape lead you to develop anything in yourself as an artist?

Soddie Casino: Yes it did. It's a completely different direction as to where I was headed in comparison to my first tape... in a way it kind of made me more mature, and made me think of music in a different perspective.

Urban Time: Can you talk a little more about this shift in perspective?

Soddie Casino: It made me kind of divert from "rapping" and more so focus on making music and stories and delivering that story perfectly so people can relate to it better.

Urban Time: Are you working on anything currently? Such as visuals or music?

Soddie Casino: I have a single entitled "17:16" releasing the first of next month. As for visuals, it's a secret but I will just say yes.

Urban Time: Very cool! What does this single revolve around? And what style (from your previous styles) can we expect to see in this?

Soddie Casino: It's not like anything I've made to be honest... more of a spoken word approach though. The single is basically about life and it's struggles, & kinda goes over everything us youth thinks about at this age. The reason it's called 17:16 is because the chorus in the song is repeating "you are not the world" which is derived from John 17:16, "they are not of the world, even as I am".

Urban Time: Looking forward to that, with the "spoken word" approach would you say its more lyrical? And what meaning do you want to portray by saying "you are not the world"?

Soddie Casino: Definitely. I always strive to be more lyrical and deep with every track I make. I just want everyone to know their worth and realise that we are all different but all have a purpose. But it's kind of a deep track, a lot of feels are in it and it'll definitely move the listener at some parts. Im tryna make niggas cry, real shit.

Urban Time: Hahahah, we'll keep our readers updated. This is set to be released May 1st you said?

Soddie Casino: Yep.

Urban Time: Sounds good, looking forward to that! Thank you so much!
